Tasmania – A Quick Photography Adventure

Earlier this month I had the pleasure of heading over to Tasmania for 7 days for a quick photography adventure  to visit some of my favourite places in Tasmania.

Tasmania without a doubt is my favourite part of Australia.  Being born and bred in Australia I’ve travelled and seen some amazing landscapes, met some great characters and driven some amazing roads (tracks and not quite tracks) all around Australia but without a doubt Tasmania is the place that continually draws me back.

I don’t whether its the amazing relaxed atmosphere or just the pure abundance of pure unadulterated nature right on your doorstep, either way Tasmania my favourite part of Australia. The tourism slogan of A world apart but not a world away is just so so appropriate

Tasmania lies some 150 miles (approx 250km) south of the mainland and is easily travelled to by plane in under 1 hour or via ship on which you can take your car as I did on this occasion.

Approximately 45% of Tasmania is protected by Reserves, State and National Parks and World Heritage Sites/UNSECO which is heart warming to see the protection of environment being taken seriously. Its this level of protection that sees such pristine wilderness and an abundance of wildlife for us and future generations to observe.

This level of protection has come about by the recognition of the environment by the local populace, by the state and federal governments of Australia and on a World stage by UNESCO.  Much of this brought about by some amazing local photographers and a lot of hard work by environmental campaigners that deserve our gratitude  Something we can only but hope to occur in so many other unique places we have on this great planet.

One of the great things about Tasmania is the abundance of wildlife.  Everywhere you travel there are Wallabies, Pademelons, Wombats, Quolls and Bandicoots  that can be seen and at night the Tasmanian Devil.  Sadly, just as common as  the sight of wildlife scampering through the bush is, its just as common to see road kill, the sad and unfortunate downside of an abundance of fauna so close to settled areas.

Over the coming weeks I’ll be sharing more of my trip to Tasmania and some of the locations I photographed that will in the near future be part of a Photography Expedition that I will be announcing that will encompass Tasmania.  Keep an eye out for this announcement!

Tasmania is a truly amazing place and to be honest, if I could bring myself to pick up my family and leave our extended family and friends behind we would be permanent residents of this wonderful unique part of the world.
